The Secret To Moving Forward Is Questioning Your Internal Narrative

We can throw narratives that aren’t serving us away, like a crumpled first draft of a story

“The important thing is to tell yourself a life story in which you, the hero, are primarily a problem solver rather than a helpless victim. This is well within your power, whatever fate might have dealt you” — Martha Beck

Over the last year, I’ve become enthralled with the work of Brene Brown, and how we create narratives in our heads.

I was packing up all of my stuff for an upcoming trip, and I was incredibly overwhelmed at my list that seemed to be growing longer than my arm, day by day.

  • Sort Passport.
  • Arrange Storage.
  • Tell Utilities Companies.
  • Sell Car.

My life began to become a sea of checkboxes.

I noticed that I had a bit of a sinking feeling when it came to this, and for the first time, with the time and space to sit and be with myself, I began to question my internal narrative.
