How Embracing Life’s Paradoxes Leads To Peace

I’ve been wrestling with the concept of paradoxes lately.

After being an incredibly driven, forward facing and future-orientated person for most of my life, my friend has imbued in me a sense of the opposite — to be at peace with where you are, to accept circumstances fully and to let go of controlling outcomes.

Isn’t that what life is about, bettering yourself? But after experiencing the negative side of an overly ambitious nature (note: burnout), I decided to adopt his way of being for a little while.

It was nice; serene, almost.

For once, even when I travelled to Las Palmas and was surrounded by digital nomads, I started to not even care about this imaginary ladder I have been climbing, in the pursuit of getting somewhere (note: forever growing, bettering myself).

You see, I was adept at filling in the cracks.

Spotting the things that could be improved upon; and fine tuning them like a well oiled machine.

Accepting is surrendering those elements; knowing that life is neither perfect nor utterly within your control, and you can only do the best with the cards you’ve been given.

You see, paradoxes are a part of life.
